A Deep Dive into Durability

A Deep Dive into Durability

Picture this: it’s finally time to move into your brand new home. The floors are freshly cleaned, the walls don’t have a scuff in sight, and the countertops have yet to experience their first set of fingerprints. It’s the perfectly clean slate that you’ve been looking forward to!

This peacefulness, however, doesn’t last very long. As soon as you arrive to move in, chaos ensues. Furniture dragging across the floor, dogs running in and out, and kids... just being kids. You desperately say to your family “Don’t mess anything up!” and just hope that they take it to heart.

Sound familiar? Almost all of us experience this anxiety at one point or another!

The good news is that your new house is literally made for this... and more! Durability is one of our highest priorities here at Schuber Mitchell. Here are 3 of the areas we focus on to ensure your home can stand up to the test of time – and toddlers!

1. Countertops

The kitchen counter is almost always a hotspot in family homes. Its duties go beyond just meal prep — hosting tutoring sessions, homemade pizza parties, science experiments, and more.

To accommodate all of these activities, it’s important that this surface be scratch resistant, heat resistant, and easy to keep clean. Materials like laminate and tile miss the mark completely, and don’t meet any of these requirements. That’s why we always stick to granite or quartz countertops .

Not only do these materials feel luxurious, they are also incredibly hard to injure making them the perfect material to use in such a functional space.

2. Flooring

Replacing flooring isn’t a walk in the park. It is a big expense, and it can be messy and inconvenient to do while living in the home. High quality flooring is key to ensuring that your home holds its value and you don't have to worry about replacing it.

One of our favorite materials to use is a porcelain wood look tile . Not only does this option look beautiful, it also can handle a lot of wear and tear! It is nearly impossible to scratch, making it the perfect material for families with pets.

It also has an absorption rate of 0.5% which means that these floors are essentially waterproof.

3. Structure

Of course it is important that the interior finishes of your home be resilient, but you can’t forget about the structure itself! Here at Schuber Mitchell, we have build practices that go above and beyond federal and state codes and requirements to ensure that our buyers feel secure in their brand new homes.

These practices include utilizing 6 inch hurricane-grade screws to secure pre-engineered trusses to the frame of your home. We also use a combination of mud straps and 7 inch anchor bolts to secure the home to the concrete slab. We feel confident that these extra build practices make our homes durable enough to stand the test of time and weather!

Sometimes, making messes is just part of making memories. Your home needs to be able to handle whatever those messes entail!
